About Peter Richman MD MBA

Peter Richman MD MBA has an extensive background in graduate education, business, and finance. He has served in academic emergency medicine settings working alongside residents for a quarter of a century. During this time, he held a faculty appointment at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, and, most recently, served as Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Texas A&M University system. Peter is most proud of his recognition as Faculty of the Year awarded by the CHRISTUS Health/Texas A&M emergency medicine residents in 2019 as he is passionate about education and mentoring young physicians.

Peter combines his teaching expertise with a variety of experiences in business and personal finance. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Peter co-founded the internet firm MDChoice.com (later known as ChoiceMedia.com) that was acquired by major venture capital firms. He has also been a strategic advisor to several successful medical device start-up technology companies.

Peter brings over 15 years of experience in personal physician targeted economics education and financial services industry experience to Finance Rounds. He founded one of the earliest physician education finance websites, wrote regular articles on personal finance in a national specialty periodical, and has lectured around the country to physicians on personal finance. For several years, after passing the National Association of Security Dealers (NASD) Series 65 examination, he ran a small investment advisory practice targeted towards physicians. However, he found that working within the industry was not as satisfying as teaching, so he closed his practice. Finance Rounds affords Peter the opportunity to combine his passion for finance with his love of teaching.

When he is not working, Peter keeps busy with numerous hobbies, especially sports participation and attending live events. Peter was elected to the Brandeis University Athletics Hall of Fame as a starting member of the 1989 University Men's Tennis Championship team that went to the NCAA tournament finishing with a national ranking of 9th. He made the All-New England singles and doubles teams in 1986. He spends many winter days hiking/skiing above the lifts with his children and friends at Alta, Utah.

Peter is married to the love of his life, Karen, an estate planning attorney, and together they share in the raising of 5 children. They live in Scottsdale, Arizona in a community with many tennis courts.
