Hi, I’m Peter Richman, MD MBA

Like most physicians, I left medical school and residency with very limited knowledge of personal finance.

Throughout my 25+ years in academic emergency medicine, I have grown increasingly disturbed that the only people who seem to provide personal finance "education" are people who are trying to sell investment and insurance products.

Some of my background:

  • Previously built my own investment business advisory firm (no longer active)
  • Physician with 25+ years in graduate medical education
  • Experience advising nurses and other health care professionals in financial matters
  • My mom is a nurse, and, thus, I have special fondness for those in the field
  • This course was designed with input from health care workers to address your key economic concerns

Healthcare runs in the family

The Richman family has worked in health care for nearly 100 years, including nurses, hospital social workers, hospital pharmacists, and physicians. My mom received her nursing degree (RN) from Syracuse University in 1963 and later her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of South Carolina.

Because I have an MBA and financial services industry experience, I have helped my mom for several decades with her finances. On one such occasion, my mom expressed to me that she was worried that her retirement savings was inadequate. That’s when I realized that there was a real gap in financial education for health care workers that remains to this day. With this curriculum, I hope to bridge that gap and help folks like my mom.

I talk to health care workers all the time about personal finance, and now I want to share this unbiased financial advice with you

Financial services industry salespeople are typically brought in to give "educational" lectures/lunches for health care workers.

However, behind the delicious meals and the information offered, the lecturer has a primary purpose to add to their client roster and sell financial products. Similarly, many financial education website authors litter their websites with ads from financial services professionals creating the same risk of bias. When these sites offer courses, the fees are usually significant.

With a formal background in personal finance and decades of teaching experience, I have designed an inexpensive, online curriculum that will enable you to learn key concepts so that you may skillfully navigate within the financial world throughout your career.
